Above Park City ..... and Into the Fog. - part 1
This is a 2-part series, because I really have TOO MANY pictures and didn't want to delete any! Now I really wanted to create a slideshow set to music, but all my research and Alicia's help could not figure out how to create a high picture quality result that I could easily share. And with virtually any music added, YouTube will take the results down due to copyright infringement on the music

Above Park City
It was a cold and windy night..
Well actually it was mostly raining and/or threatening to rain. A day in the outdoors did not look like it was in the cards, so we decided to take a drive. Up Rt 224 throughout Park City ski resort, yes this road actually drives through the ski area. Imagine driving a car up a well-paved road, under chair lifts, to the top of the mountain. Along the way, we were astonished to find some rather large lodges well up on the mountain....Montage this one was very close to the top, at around 8000 ft. They have to keep the road open in the winter ... a crazy prospect for sure.
We did the drive without any expectations: didn't know where we would end up, what we would see, if it would rain on us, if the roads were crappy dirt/muddy or worse (a road that could puncture yet another tire!)
What happened is that after driving through the ski resort, we ended up at the top, at the crest line of the range. It was an open view for almost 360 degrees and spotted with various chair lifts. Definitely the top. We were up near the Jupiter and Empire bowls (open google maps for Park City and follow 224 through the ski areas.)
It wasn't raining, but we were in unsettled weather.
The altitude, shifting weather pattern and expansive surroundings, set up some nice condition for camera shots.

Panning the west looking area - we pulled out the binoculars and spotted snow capped peaks on the horizon -- no idea what range it was.

As noted in the intro -- more shooting and less deleting -- even though some shots look the same.

The road into Big Cottonwood -- Alta and Snowbird are somewhere over the ridge line. We could have taken this road all the way to Salt Lake City ... that sure would have been "taking the back road!"

Hike to Fish ... with Dave
I met Dave a while ago on line, he has been an internet friend since... he lives in Salt Lake City, and we agreed to get together for a hike in the Uinta-Wasatch mountains.
I suggested that we hike to Scudder Lake and hopefully do some fishing. I selected it based on the distance in and the suggestion that is holds fish. Well, we did the hike, arrived at Scudder, walked around the lake and determined that it was unlikely that fishing would be productive. The lake was partially inaccessible due to being ringed by lily pads and interrupted by numerous downed trees.
So, we had a nice lunch and decided to head back back and look for another lake ... this time, close to the road. We ended up at Mirror Lake. Even though it was crowded (Saturday) we had a spot we could fish at. Alas, it proved better for pictures than for catching fish.
All in all a good day with Dave and being in a nice location. Not so good for catching.

Millie the Pot-bellied Pig
We have been staying at our friends Mike and Paula's place in Park City. Since we have not seen them in quite a while, it was a thrill to know that they planned on being here at the same time.
Their prime reason for being in Park City was to relocate their pet pot-bellied pig - Millie - from San Diego to Park City. Mike and Paula have had Millie for 8 years, and with changes up coming, they needed to shift Millie. The plan was to more or less set her up in a local farmstand type of deal, quite nearby their place. Millie would have been the show pig at the farm.
It didn't work out - Millie became somewhat aggressive with the new owner and things began to go downhill from there. No benefit in having a "petting zoo" pig that may prove to be too aggressive around children. She basically flunked her audition. We think she really didn't want to be here and wanted to "go home"!
So, Mike and Paula had to schlep Millie back to San Diego and come up with a Plan B.
We found Millie to be quite an attractive little girl (185 LBS), but likely will not be added to our list of "pets sat for". Just before they returned to SD, we had time play with Millie and take her for a walk in the neighborhood. On the walk, Millie turned a lot of heads!

Good Samaritan
We were near the place where we are staying in Park City and saw this fellow under his car in obvious need of help.... it was obvious since he was attending to his spare tire on his.... yes, guess..... yes, yes.. 2005 Suburban!
I stopped, because as I said, it was 2005 Suburban with a spare tire issue. He had no idea what he was looking at and was completely frustrated (which was too be expected).
I hopped under the car and pointed out exactly what he had to do and how..... because of course, I've dealt with the same damn thing over the past 2 summer trips. I left before we could fix it as the young man needed to go to work.

Vernal
Vernal is a cross-through town between Utah and Colorado. We have been in Vernal recently and again in the past and found it to be very interesting.
Vernal is very close to Dinosaur National Park, so there is a dinosaur theme throughout town.
I am most impressed by the Pink Dino (or DinoPinkasaurus)

See the potted flowers? they continue in mass quantities for the next two miles. They are all big and all the same color: Red White and Blue
