Until next year ...

After a nearly 3 week sit outside of Newport RI, we are now back in the beach house in Saco (yes it is still there)..

We will continue housesitting and may already have a few opportunities, a couple of quaint cottages in Newport.

So, we must now sign off for this season, until next year we remain "the Baron and Baroness".

Doors of Wickford

Wickford RI is about a 10 minute drive from where we are right now. It is an old waterfront town that was prominent in its day... which would have been around 1790-1820 ish given the historic markers in the houses. It was settled in 1637  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickford,_Rhode_Island and has a rich history.

A walk around town is basically a walk through an old New England village.

I chose to take shots of the doors and a couple of windows.

Home is -- back on New England shores

We are now sitting in North Kingstown RI which is close to South Kingstown. But Kingston and West Kingston are between North Kingstown and South Kingstown... yes I am spelling all these correctly. Kingston is a village within South Kingstown. - right! and confusing

We are real close to Newport RI which we intend to visit shortly.

Recently, because Alicia was off gallivanting, I spent some time exploring and found Point Judith and Point Judith beach... what did I find? -- Stacked Stones.  and the first thing that I recalled was Justin and Corey stacking stones in Frisco.

Well this beach was a mother lode for stones and it seems that over time, anyone who visited - built something... a simple stack, a complex stack, a mound or even some art!

Here's a taste:

First thing I noticed -- some small stacks -- hard to see

Then some nicely built stacks

Lots of them

Again, hard to see, but stacks and mounds everywhere.

Hmmm -- rock art!

Woof

What noise do turtles make?

The Return

After Mountain Home Arkansas and fishing the White River, we plied our way home..

Staying in B&Bs in Bardstown KY and Frostburg MD, we are now comfortably ensconced in "the cottage" in Putnam CT -- everyone needs to stay in "the cottage"

We are almost home.

We have a 2 week housesit just outside of Newport RI during which we plan on visiting the mansions and seeing how other people like us live... I am not sure if they are living up to our lifestyle, but it will be fun to see what the upper class are doing.

Night Fishing

Our friend and guide Paul Bobby ( the kids call him Mr Booby) has been consistently telling us that night fishing was excellent and we should do it. We procrastinated. Hell, it's cold at night. ....and you can't see!

So, with much fanfare... and since we had to say "Yes Paul" .. we set off for night fishing.

It was to be a twilight fishing expedition that simple "evolved" into a trip that took us into midnight or beyond.  Yikes, I go to bed at 10!

We set off, now in the dark, and casted to water that we could not see.... Paul said "Be Patient" - let it happen (or something like that)... There are BIG fish here... the last trip we caught 28 fish...

Well, we didn't catch 28 fish, since the water levels we all screwed up ....

But we did catch BIG fish -- Alicia was happy.

First it was about the Bald Eagles

Then it was about buzzards

Then a two fished fisherman that Paul enjoyed!

Then the BIG fish at night

Ha, mine was bigger that hers!

Couple of buds enjoying the catch -- almost 25"  -- BIG

Observations

Peculiar

Now that is a place that I could live in.... unlike Normalville PA (near FallingWater) which is an unlikely place,

********************
As we drive around we see a TON of signs making note of Historic Downtown (fill in the blank). Really they are everywhere... my guess is that the government gives you money and a sign if you simple suggest that your town is "historic" -- why else?  No pictures, but a real deal.

********************

Cheyenne Bottoms

It's wildlife refuge in Kansas http://www.naturalkansas.org/cheyenne.htm but I think it would be better if it were the name of a running back in the NFL, or maybe an exotic dancer!

**********************

2.99

When was the last time you saw this....  I just had to stop and fill up. And to think, gas was 4.09 in Aspen (where of course, we spotted the store sign that said "Be Prepared To Spend"

Home is..... drum roll ... an RV!

We returned to Arkansas to fish the White River and hang out with Paul Bobby... who, after guiding us a few times, has become a good friend. In June, Paul and his wife Cindra suggested that staying in their RV was a possibility (after a few glasses of wine) so, after a few months out west, we took them up on it. Paul is a retired Air Force MP, so I need to be careful. Cindra is a retired LtCol.

Anyway, we worked it out so that we reserved the site, and Paul "delivered" the RV to the site. We just thought it would be totally cool... in a way it is more that totally cool, since I am sitting in a comfortable chair while it is absolutely pouring out (nasty day of weather).

Here is a look at our home for the next 4 days.

It's a 35footer

Alicia just thinks it is totally cool! But she doesn't want to drive it, or own one..... yet! ha
